Neuroprotective effects of an Asian herbal medicine, Yi-Gan San (pubmed,wiki)
Pubmed Study showed neuroprotective effect of Yi-Gan San on a Parkinsonian mouse model. See this second Pubmed study showing the benefits of Yi-gan san for the treatment of patients with schizophrenia who had neuroleptic-induced tardive dyskinesia. This is particularly interesting since the same japanese herb is used for adjunct treatment of schizophrenia, see third Pubmed study .

MediNewsDigest:: This is the “Ketogenic diet” According to article, “.. is a treatment of choice for seizures associated with glucose transporter protein deficiency (ie, De Vivo disease) and pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency..” This seem to mean a subset of epilepsy. Does not look like an easy or otherwise nutritious diet, but hopefully helpful for this kind of children’s epilepsy.

Radix Paeoniae alba, a potent chinese herb helps regulate neuron autophagy, implicated in neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s (pubmed)
Medicinal herbs are drugs, albeit natural. This study shows western medicine showing potency of Paeoniflorin in neurological activity. But, it seems that only Chinese Medicines practitionners would know what to do with it…
