Protecting Your Job While Coping With a Chronic Illness (NYT,avoiceforms)

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

SJCRG: Good article about approaches to workplace survival, if one comes down with a serious illness like MS. Probably suggestions work better with medium to large corporations. Adjustments like these are more difficult than the tone of the NYT article suggests. We would suggest getting a therapist to help adapt.

Immigrants with disabilities more frequently employed than US-born persons with disabilities(Eurekalert,CIRP)

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

SJCRG: First of all we learn that immigration stands at 13 % in the US. Note that the author does not distinguish between legal and illegal immigration.
Two ways to look at the numbers:
1) Foreign Born disabled have no benefits and have to work
2) Foreign Born workers command lesser wages
3) Foreign Born workers are “less trouble” and more easily exploited
Seems that this applies more to illegal immegrants, maybe to legal ones, and certainly not to foreign born US citizens!
The confusion continues….

Updated Comments on: “Revision to the bible of psychiatry, DSM, could introduce new mental disorders” (washingtonpost)

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

SJCRG:
This is another example of the “dumming down” of psychiatric disease diagnosis. Not just a benign example of the liberal Academia having a field day: this could burden further the Health Care system and water down the definition of disability itself. CLICK HERE for wpost link

Oops, this is already occuring in the Obama administration’s new definition of disability. To see our previous post CLICK HERE

SJCRG: Case in Point: Justice Department offering Grants for programs treating mental health disorders in the penal system. Nothing wrong with this, unless you start adding trivial disorders to schizophrenia types of issues…Then the taxpayer should go to the next town Hall meeting….

The Lancet has formally retracted a controversial paper published 12 years ago that purported the measles vaccine causes autism.(KHN)

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

SJCRG: A serious dent in the vaccine/autism link camp. Bet you the die hard are still believer though. Because this issue is at the border of science and quasi religious movement. Got to find a culprit for autism. Got to spill the anger about autism on something. True about most serious diseases were anger is part of the cycle. At SJCRG, we will follow the rebutal that is all but certain…

What the ADA Amendments (ADAAA) Mean (Disability.gov)

Monday, December 21st, 2009

SJCRG: There is a lot of watering down the definition of Disability in these amendments…see for yourself by following the link (CLICK HERE) In our opinion a real disservice for the “real” Disabled. Then again, this is consistent with the liberal Democrat doctrine of “The more people aboard the better, even if it sinks the ship..”
